About Year 2

Year 2 at Olney Infant Academy is a pivotal stage in a child's educational journey, designed to build upon the independence and creativity fostered in earlier years. With a blend of structured lessons and open-ended challenges, children continue to develop as confident, curious learners who can apply their knowledge with purpose and imagination.

Mornings in Year 2 are structured around core subjects, Mathematics and  English, where children engage in whole-class learning before transitioning into independent work and follow-up challenges. This approach ensures they deepen their understanding, refine key skills, and develop resilience as learners. Afternoons offer a more flexible approach, where open-ended challenge time allows children to explore and apply their learning in creative and self-directed ways.

Technology is integrated seamlessly into the curriculum, with each child having access to an iPad to support learning in both structured lessons and challenge time. This digital tool enhances engagement, encourages independent research, and enables children to document and reflect on their learning journey.

In addition to the core subjects, children benefit from a rich and diverse curriculum that includes computing and foundation subjects such as geography, history, design technology, art, music, and physical education. Weekly PSHE and RE lessons provide opportunities for personal development, ethical discussions, and fostering an understanding of the world around them.

Physical education remains an essential part of the curriculum, with children participating in both indoor and outdoor PE sessions each week to promote fitness, teamwork, and a love for movement.

Year 2 at Olney Infant Academy is about deepening understanding, embracing independence, and preparing children for their next academic steps in an engaging and supportive environment.
